Nature Journals and Tots 3 part lesson

I know I'm skiving but the sun is shining and the sky is blue....
I opted to ditch planned lessons this morning and spend the time outside with our nature journals - as you can imagine the girls were only too happy to oblige : )

They each chose a flower from our garden to identify, observe, photograph, draw and press - the finished pages will go in their nature file.

DD8 decided it was much easier to trace the flower than draw it
and it seems she started a trend......

We also observed at close range a butterfly that kindly sat on a few fingers (DD8 exclaimed it was a dream come true). After that we headed back inside to do some reading. While the older girls were reading and crafting DD2 had a 3 part lesson on colour using feathers to tie in with her bird theme - I started by laying the feathers out on a tray and pointing to them naming the colours

Part 2 - 'show me the green feather', 'where is the blue feather' etc
Part 3 - the 'what colour is this' stage

She was so pleased with stage 2 (show me the...) she proceeded to dump all the feathers on the tray and play a giant game of find the feather for about 20 mins.

I'm linking this up at one hook wonder

I love how you followed your children's lead in their nature studies! And I love that you used the 3-period lesson with the colored feathers! I featured your post at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LivingMontessoriNow
